General

What is Vidro?

Vidro is an all-glass coffee brewer that uses a natural process called cake filtration, where the coffee grounds themselves become the filter. That means no paper filters, no plastics, and no unwanted flavors. Just clean coffee brewed the way it was meant to be.

What makes Vidro different from other brewers?

Vidro is made entirely of glass, so your coffee never touches plastic or metal. It uses natural cake filtration instead of paper or mesh filters, resulting in a smoother cup with more flavor and fewer impurities. No mold, no microplastics, and no waste.

What are the health benefits of brewing with glass?

Glass is non-reactive, so it will not leach chemicals, metals, or microplastics into your coffee. Unlike plastic or metal brewers, Vidro ensures a pure, mold-free, and toxin-free brew, which is especially important for a daily ritual (not to mention the better taste!).

Brewing With Your Vidro

How does cake filtration work?

As you brew, the coffee grounds settle and naturally form a dense filter bed (or "cake") that traps fine particles while letting flavorful oils pass through. It’s the same method used by pros in cupping and by high-end brewers, now brought into an elegant, all-glass format.

Does sediment fall into my cup?

Very little, and typically only if your grind is too fine. Vidro’s natural filtration keeps most sediment out of your cup. For best results, use a medium-coarse grind and pour gently. The result is smooth and clean, with just enough body to remind you it's real coffee.

How much coffee should I use?

For one cup (10 oz), use 18 to 20 grams of medium-coarse coffee, or about 3 to 3.5 tablespoons. If you are brewing two cups back-to-back, use fresh grounds for each brew to maintain flavor and clarity.

What kind of grind should I use?

Use a medium-coarse grind, similar to sea salt. This creates the ideal density for the coffee bed to filter naturally without letting too much sediment through.

How hot should the water be?

Aim for 195 to 205°F (90 to 96°C), just below boiling. That’s the sweet spot for extracting flavor without bitterness. If using a microwave, heat for about 1 minute 45 seconds to 2 minutes. On the stovetop, expect 3 to 4 minutes on medium-high heat.

How long does it take to brew with Vidro?

The entire process takes about 3 to 4 minutes. Start with a 30-second bloom to let the coffee degas, then pour the remaining water slowly and let gravity do the rest.

Can I reuse the grounds for a second cup?

We do not recommend it. Reusing the grounds leads to over-extraction and a weak, bitter cup, or cause clogging. For a second cup, reload with fresh grounds - it’s worth it.

Is this like a French press?

Not quite. While both let you enjoy coffee oils and a full-bodied cup, Vidro produces a cleaner brew with far less sediment. And since there is no mesh or plunger, there is nothing to trap buildup or mold over time.

What should I do with used coffee grounds?

Used coffee grounds are fully compostable and make a great addition to your garden, houseplants, or compost bin. You can also use them to deodorize your fridge, scrub your sink, or even exfoliate your hands. Vidro makes it easy to dispose of grounds cleanly with no soggy paper filters or pods to deal with. Just tap them out and rinse.

Shipping

How long does shipping take? Where do you ship from?

We ship from Philadelphia, PA and shipping speed depends on what you select at checkout, but typically just a few days from checkout to sipping your first Vidro cup.

Vidro Features

Is Vidro dishwasher safe?

Vidro is made from high-quality, heat-resistant glass, but we recommend washing by hand with mild soap and warm water. Most days, however, a quick rinse with warm water is adequate.

How do I clean Vidro?

After each brew, discard the grounds and rinse thoroughly with warm water. For a deeper clean, soak in warm water with mild dish soap every week or two. For hard water stains, use a 50/50 mix of white vinegar and water. No harsh chemicals or abrasive scrubbing needed.

What materials is Vidro made from?

Vidro is made entirely of borosilicate glass (the same type used in high-end labware and cookware). It’s heat-resistant, non-reactive, and built to handle daily brewing without cracking or clouding over time. No plastic, no metal, and nothing that interferes with the taste of your coffee.

Is Vidro eco-friendly?

Yes. Vidro was designed to help you brew coffee without waste. There are no paper filters, no plastic pods, and no disposable parts. Just glass, coffee, and water. Every cup you brew is one less filter or pod in a landfill.

Is Vidro good for travel or the office?

Definitely. Vidro has a compact, unplugged design that makes it perfect for brewing anywhere - whether you're in a home kitchen, coworking space, or out in nature. All you need is hot water and coffee.

Does Vidro retain flavor better than other brewers?

Yes. Because Vidro is made of glass and uses natural cake filtration, it keeps your coffee pure and flavorful. No paper to absorb oils, no plastic to add off-notes.
